Bank of Montreal Aptitude Tests
There are several pre-employment assessments candidates sit following the application stage. These assessments are taken online and are a mix of ability tests and assessments that focus on a candidate’s characteristics and work behaviors.
Bank of Montreal situational judgment test (SJT)
The situational judgment test focuses on a candidate’s innate behavior preferences when in the workplace, and takes the form of a questionnaire with scenario-based questions.
The scenarios presented are very similar to those that would be faced when working on the job. Candidates select from a list of statements that follow those that best describe the way they would behave in that situation.
The same behaviors and preferences will be assessed through questions worded in a variety of different ways. Being honest in your answers, and not second-guessing what you think the recruiter wants to hear, means that you’ll present an accurate representation of yourself.
Bank of Montreal numerical reasoning test
A numerical reasoning test assesses a candidate’s ability to deal with numerical information presented in the form of graphs, charts or tables. Candidates need to use their understanding of basic mathematical concepts (eg ratios, percentages, fractions) to analyze the information and select which of the multiple-choice answers provided is correct.
Ensure that you have practiced numerical tests beforehand, so that you are familiar with the format and can identify any gaps in your knowledge that you need to work on.

The personality test at BOM focuses on a candidate’s natural characteristics and traits when in the workplace, which are then assessed against those required for success in the role.
When sitting a personality test, ensure that you answer the questions honestly and go with your gut feel. Being consistent with how you answer the questions will provide a clear insight into your personality, and present an accurate picture of yourself.
